How do I get to the "Home Page" from any of the active pages ?
Simply selecting the "OK" button in the upper right hand corner of any active page will return you to the Home Page.
How do I make assignments?
Select one of the tabs at the bottom of the assignments page that corresponds to the assignment you want to make (ie: Attck1, Vent, etc). You may need to select the left or right arrow at the bottom right hand corner of the screen to view the assignment you want to make. Once on the correct page, select "In" and a list of firefighters names will appear. Select the firefighters names (firefighters should be assigned in teams of two or more) and they will be highlighted. Select "OK" and the assignment is made. Select the location box and choose the proper location for the assignment. The assignment is time stamped.
How do I take a firefighter out of an assignment ?
Select the firefighters names to be removed, their names will be highlighted. Select "OUT" and a message will appear, "Reassign to," with the list of different assignments listed below it. Select the location where the firefighters will be assigned to and select "OK." The firefighters are then moved to their new assignment.
How many firefighters can I put in each assignment ?
The PAR allows a list that can be "indefinite."
Can I reduce the number of firefighters names that appear in the drop down menus ?
Yes you can. If you wish to have only the firefighters that are "on-duty" appear on the list versus the whole department, you can "filter" the list. On the "Firefighter" page you select the names of firefighters working (They will be highlighted) and then select commit.
Should I filter the names ?
If your department relies on the call-back of personnel for emergency incidents, we recommend that you NOT filter the names. If a majority of incidents are handled by on-duty personnel, you can filter the names.
What happens if I select a firefighter for an assignment that is already assigned ?
The PAR will reassign that firefighter, removing him/her from their previous assignment.
Can I find a firefighter who has been assigned without having to go looking through each individual assignment?
Yes, by simply going to the "Status" page and selecting "Assignment" at the top, the names will appear along with their current assignment. Clicking on "Assignment" twice will bring all the firefighters assigned to the top of the list. Select a firefighters name and touch "Go to Assignment" and the PAR will go to the specific assignment page.
How will I know when to assign/reassign firefighters, I can't be everywhere at once ?
As in all firefighting operations, COMMUNICATION is the key here. NFPA 1500 section 8.3.3 states: " It is the responsibility of all members operating at an emergency incident to actively participate in the Personnel Accountability System. Your department should MANDATE (and TRAIN) that all accomplished tasks (as well as barriers to the accomplishment of tasks) be communicated via radio. This will keep you informed. It is also crucial that the Personnel Accountability Officer work in conjunction with your Safety Officer to keep the accountability accurate.
Can the PAR be used for Mutual-Aid calls ?
Yes. Simply list your mutual-aid companies below the last named firefighter on the list.(Example: Fireville E-1, Smokeville T-2). Select the mutual-aid company filling the assignment (instead of a name) and it's done.
What can the printed report do for my department ?
By having a chronological report of events, you are able to conduct a much more detailed and accurate Post Incident Analysis. No more guessing about what happened where, and when. The report will also help identify training needs. For example, if your Primary Search team took 7 minutes to conduct their search on the first floor of a two-story home, you've identified the fact that you need to train in Primary Search Techniques to be able to perform them this type of search quicker.
How can our department be better at Personnel Accountability?
Have your Personnel Accountability Officers use the PAR during training evolutions. We run training evolutions in hose line advancement, ladders, ventilation, search and rescue, forcible entry, etc BUT DON'T in the area of Personnel Accountability ! Remember, WE PERFORM ON THE FIRE GROUND THE WAY WE TRAIN. Practice using the PAR during training and make it part of your training evolutions. USE COMMUNICATION in every aspect of your job…………….it may save your life.
